Miss Anambra’s sex tape – her defense

The internet world is not mythical. It is no longer the great unknown where unbelievable things happen. The defense by the Beauty queen that the video was contrived is laughable at best, and ignorant at worst.

After being recently crowned Miss Anambra, Chidinma Okeke has had the internet abuzz with outrage due to a leaked video, purportedly of her, engaging in sexual activity with another female. She has moved very swiftly to deny her involvement or presence in the video, attributing it to the actions of ”hackers” or ”internet gurus.”

Her reasons for the attempt to deny her very obvious presence and participation in the video can be understood on numerous levels: first of, in Nigeria, Homosexuality is a crime and is punishable by law, with a penalty of up to 14 years in prison. It is severely frowned upon by custodians, and goes against most moral codes of Nigerian society.

Secondly, as a budding beauty queen and super model, she is most likely in the process of building her brand and things like this are very harmful and can put paid to long periods of hard work undertaken to get to this point. In the Nigerian society, corporate involvement/sponsorships will be hard to come by with a stigma such as homosexuality hanging over her head.

While the series of events surrounding the likely downfall of a young girl aspiring to live her dreams may seem like a cheap attack to tarnish her begotten image, we cannot overlook the consequences of performing such “immoral” activities in an age where cyber bullying is a reality.
